Kyouran Kazoku Nikki - Episode 12

Watching Kyouran Kazoku Nikki has been rather like buying a lottery scratch card - More often than not you'll end up with nothing, but occasionally you'll win your pound coin back and will feel that it wasn't such a waste of time after all.

Unfortunately, this particular episode of the series sits well and truly in the former of those two categories, as I found myself scratching off the proverbial silver panel of this episode only to find two cats and an egg sandwich. Above all else, I have to mention one thing to the script writers of this episode - Including a token appearance from one of the main characters in an otherwise almost entirely unrelated story does not make it any less filler-ific. I hate to point the fickle finger of filler at anything, but this was about as needless an episode of a series you can find.

It's hard to even motivate myself to explain the plot, so in short a college student (who actually isn't, he failed his entrance exams but studies there anyway) meets a cat out in the rain, takes it in, it turns into a cat girl, who is in fact being chased by some kind of local police force, they go on the run, clean some toilets, fall in love and live happily ever after. Very little that you could seriously call funny happens, the character designs for this series as a whole seem to be getting ever-more repetitive, and I really can't think of anything to even recommend sitting through this particular instalment, unless you want to play a drinking game I call "Drink yourself into a stupour as quickly as possible so you don't have to endure the bad anime episode".

Every episode, I sit down really wanting to like this series - It promised so much, and on odd occasions it delivers. Thus, when something like this comes along (and episode thirteen also looks dangerously like filler material), it's all the more demoralising.
