After that weak Christmas-themed episode of Kyouran Kazoku Nikki last time around, it would have been hard not to improve upon that particular offering. Episode twenty-two starts up a new mini story arc which, in keeping with so much of this series, manages to be okay without ever daring to stray into "good" territory.
Never mind raining cats and dogs, in this episode we get a shower Kyouran Kazoku Nikki style, as it start raining aliens. In amidst all of the creatures that look like they were knocked together using Spore's creature creator is a rather cute girl from Jupiter by the name of Oasis. Rather than being a big fan of 90s Britpop Oasis has a penchant for water, the ability to turn into a weapon that suggests they can get DVDs of Elemental Gelade on Jupiter, and has visited Earth to find out what love is. Of course, the Midarazeki family probably aren't the best people to ask this question to, particularly when they've been tipped off that the Earth is facing impending doom from an alien invasion - Cue an episode long mix-up between Oasis and the real threat, which in turn means that we have to wait until the next episode for said threat to continue.
As per usual for this series, this episode is split between trying to be funny (and not doing all that well in reality) and sentimental (which was just a little bit dull, but maybe I'm just a cold-hearted old man?) but manages to do neither, instead leaving us with a barely passable little story of which little of worth or any particular entertainment value can be gleaned. Oasis was at least more interesting than the increasingly irritating Kyouka, but that was about the only bright spot on yet another uneventful instalment.
