As today marks the second ever "Global Shinkai Day", what better excuse is there to indulge in a celebration of the life and works thus far of the man who inspired the creation of this day, Makoto Shinkai? As part of the celebrations, I've penned my own article chronicling Shinkai's career to date over at UK Anime, which you can find at the link below.
Also, don't forget that you'll be able to watch all of Shinkai's major works over at Crunchyroll for much of the weekend!
What I really like about Shinkai's work is how he leaves much unsaid at the end, but the ending is satisfying.
ReplyDeleteLike 5 cm per second, the end isn't a complete "And they all lived happily ever after", but a "And they probably went on and did pretty well for themselves."
That gives things a more realistic view, because who ever lives out their dreams entirely?
Or in Voices, the message got there. That's good enough.
I may be in the minority, but I like more realistic endings then more fairy tale endings.
