After their skirmish with Scar last episode, it's time for Edwards and Alphonse to return home for some much-needed repairs, with Major Armstrong accompanying them as an escort due to their relatively fragile states. However, before they arrive home they're sidetracked for a time by the sudden appearance of an old face which Major Armstrong instantly recognises...
That face belongs to a former State Alchemist who went missing after the war in Ishbal, Dr. Marcoh. Although the doctor makes his escape at the station, the trio manages to track him down, and he eventually allows himself to be quizzed by them. This inevitably leads to some new... err, leads... for Ed with regard to creating a Philosopher's Stone, and indeed Dr. Marcoh has a semi-completed stone of his own on show. Just as it looks as though Ed and Al will have to leave empty-handed, they're passed a clue by the doctor as to where to find his research on the stone, giving the boys something to do next episode at least.
For now though, the remainder of episode six of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is all about Ed and Al getting those much-needed repairs to their bodies, which takes a few days to complete. This period gives us a smidgen of much-needed Winry time, but does make for a pretty slow-paced second half of this episode where little of any particular note happens beyond a closer look at the brother's virtually surrogate family. Still, the scene is now set for the next part of the Elric brother's quest, so no doubt the pace and plot progression will be ramped up again in the next episode, and considering we were never really expecting this particular instalment to be anything much other than partial "filler" of sorts I can't really complain about it too much.
