Toradora! - Episode 6

Toradora! has fast established myself as perhaps my favourite series of this current anime season, and even when it isn't quite at its most compelling such as this episode it still succeeds in delivering a hugely entertaining instalment.

With Ami's secret out in the open (to a handful of people at least), so the battle commences to bring out her true personality, with frankly mixed (albeit occasionally amusing results) results. To be honest I can't quite figure out whether Minori knows about Ami's "split" personality or not, but her "Diet warrior" attack manages to be both hilarious and effective. When Kitamura asks Taiga and Ryuuji to help reveal Ami's true self to all and sundry, it's Aisaka who takes the initiative, subjecting her to a gruelling impression session (which sadly we don't get to see).

However, even Ami's life isn't always easy, as we discover that she has a stalker, which is why she's moved and is taking a break from modelling in the first place, and it's this scenario that finally encourages Ami to break the mould and act according to her true self... For a little while, at least. This doesn't stop her coming on to Ryuuji even more strongly, and leaving us with a distinctively uncomfortably cliff-hanger of sorts heading into episode seven.

So, this wasn't the best episode of Toradora! so far, yet it still managed to be hugely entertaining, and while I was unsure what the introduction of Ami would do to the series she's actually slotted in okay so far, while also giving Taiga more room and excuses to be her moody and agressive self. That aside, there's just a certain something about this series which makes it hugely fun to watch, and I don't see that changing in the near future.

  1. With Xam'd in sub-limbo, Toradora's my favourite this season as well. But what does Taiga have over Ami to make her do all the impressions? Is it that Ami can't help showing off her ability?

  2. Taiga threatened to throw Ami out of her house if she didn't comply, so with her stalker hanging around aside she chose a night of endless impressions over facing up to that.
