Wagaya no Oinari-sama's Byakki arc ends with this eighteenth instalment of the series, and as you might expect judging by the preceding episodesit's a relatively action-packed affair, with everyone chasing after everyone else in some configuration or other.
Oddly however, when we got to the more emotional crux of the episode (i.e. Tooru having to decide Shiro/Byakki's fate), any feeling of emotion or pressure seemed to be strangely lacking, with Tooru making a quick decision without too much soul-searching or anything of the sort. I suppose it's possible that this worked out the way it did so suggest that Tooru has matured greatly since the series began, and to be fair that's a pretty plausible explanation the more I come to think of it, but I still would have expected a little more hesitation after being appraised of all the facts before making the decision. Maybe that's just me though.
As I mentioned after watching episode seventeen, this has probably been one of Wagaya no Oinari-sam's stronger story arcs, which has done enough to lift it slightly out of the realms of abject mediocrity by proving to be a little more entertaining than some of those hearder to sit through early episodes. With that in mind, it's probably a good sign that some of the 'remnants' of this story arc appear to be setting up some of the next major storylines, so hopefully it can continue this upward trend towards the end of the series.
