After creating possibly the most episode of anime ever conceived last time around, episode eleven of Telepathy Shoujo Ran does at least return us to the general modus operandi of the series, that being mysterious... err... mysteries.
In this particular case, the brother of a classmate of Rin's has gone missing, and rather than call the police or hire a private detective, this girl of course does the only sensible thing and asks a couple of middle school girls to investigate. Thus, the search begins for the girl's journalist brother, in the process unearthing rumours of murder and a clan of being with a third eye (no sniggering at the back).
This is one of those episodes that it's difficult to rate in any discernible fashion, as it serves as little more than a precursor for the next episode where this particular story arc will come to fruition. Certainly, this instalment sets up all of the usual routes of suspicion in the kind of Scooby Doo style I've associated the series with in the past, but there really isn't much to go on beyond that.
Thus, I find myself being kind in witholding judgment on this particular episode, as it really feels as though I can't find anything to say about it without seeing as how its resolved. Overall, it was a pretty average episode in its own right, but if it's building towards something big an intriguing in episode twelve than I can forgive it that. Knowing this series however, I fully expect it to fall into predictability and/or stupidity, making little use of the telepathic powers of our protagonist and thus feeling somewhat like a waste of time. I can only pray that the next episode proves me wrong.
