Wagaya no Oinari-sama - Episode 3

Wagaya no Oinari-sama continues its largely comedic turn in episode three, making the most of its fish out of water premise and mixing it with (what else?) a high school setting for much of the episode this time around. In all fairness to it, it actually worked pretty well, delivering enough reasonably funny material to make the episode watchable, with Kuu and Kou putting in a decent enough turn as those aforementioned fishes out of their respective ponds.

It wasn't all good though - For some reason, Kuu's frequent transformations from boy to girl irritate me (or perhaps just unnerve me, generically attractive anime girls shouldn't change sex at the drop of the hat, it just isn't right), and the action scenes towards the end of the episode were cringe worthy in their execution, and clearly shoe-horned in to reach their wolf girl action quote for the episode. Really, they needn't have bothered, things were ticking along quite nicely without it.

It's become clear very quickly that Wagaya no Oinari-sama isn't going to blaze and trails when it comes to originality, but it has some fairly likeable characters, and the introduction of Sakura as a love interest in this episode is also inevitable but could well inject some more amusement into the series. Pointless action sequence aside, this was actually rather a fun episode, so I find myself unable to react too harshly to it, and with more of the same promised next time around it seems to have found its unsensational but watch-worthy groove.
